  • Brooks Gerber

    Director of Education

    (She/her) Brooks Gerber received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts at Sarah Lawrence College. She also holds a Master's Degree in Montessori Education from Loyola University Maryland. Brooks is Primary trained by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), has been in the field of Montessori education since 2004, and was a Lead Guide from 2008-2017. In 2013, Brooks co-founded the Montessori Alliance of Tennessee.

    She believes Montessori education is not just a gift to children, but a gift to society. She dedicates her professional life to seeing the movement grow and prosper.

    Brooks is passionate about the needs of the whole child and enjoys incorporating her love of travel and gardening into her teaching. She calls East Nashville home and lives in a cheerful blue house with her husband, Matt, son, Reed, and daughter, June.

  • Alice Smith

    Director of Admissions

    (She/her) Alice Smith has a Bachelor of Arts in both Journalism and Christian Ministries & Missions from Asbury University. She began working at Montessori East in early 2010, a few months after the school was founded.

    In 2016, she completed the Orientation to Adolescent Studies offered by the North American Montessori Teachers Association (NAMTA) and the Association Montessori International (AMI) at Hershey Montessori School in Ohio.

    Alice also completed her altMBA in the summer of 2021. Alice lives with her husband, Matthew, two sons, Evan and Asher, and their sweet dog, Bella.

  • Sarah Tiedemann

    Administrative Assistant

    (She/her) Sarah was born and raised in New Jersey and has lived in Nashville for a year. She has an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education and a Bachelor's Degree in Communications and Media Studies. She is North American Montessori Center certified and worked in a Montessori school in New Jersey for over 9 years. In her spare time she likes to watch the Bravo channel, read autobiographies, and go to concerts. Before moving to Nashville she spent a lot of time at Yankee Stadium cheering on her favorite baseball team. Her favorite place to travel is anywhere with a beach and palm trees.

  • Jessica Sentell

    (She/her) Jessica has a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from The University of Tennessee. She is the mother of three children, whose eldest was in Brooks Gerber’s primary class in Pleasant View, TN. She is a Nashville native, but she and her husband have lived in North Central Arkansas for the past six years. They own a 100-acre cow/calf operation in the Ozark mountains. They moved back to Nashville in March of 2020 to be closer to family. As a Montessori mom, Jessica is beyond excited to grow her passion for this amazing pedagogy.

  • Staci Webb

    (She/her) Staci is excited to be a part of the Montessori East family. She has worked with children for over a decade and this will be her 8th year as a Montessori guide. Staci is toddler trained through the North American Montessori Center, which is certified by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education. Staci is originally from Arkansas and has lived in Nashville for 9 years. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her German Shepherd mix Taya, working on aerial hoop skills, and attending Predators games.

Primary Lead Guides

  • Camille Jackson

    (She/her) Camille received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance from The Ohio State University. She then spent five years teaching dance to children of all ages in various studio and school settings in Atlanta, GA. While there, Camille served as a volunteer and board member at Reforming Arts, a non-profit providing theater infused liberal arts education to incarcerated women. In 2016, after twenty years away, Camille returned to her hometown of Nashville. She formerly served as a Primary All Day Assistant Guide. In 2019, she completed her Association Montessori Internationale training at the Southwest Institute of Montessori Studies.

  • Sophie Noone

    (She/her) Over the past decade, Sophie has worked with children in a variety of educational settings, both in the US and abroad. She completed her Association Montessori Internationale training from the Montessori Center of Minnesota and her Master’s Degree in Education from St. Catherine University. When not in the classroom, Sophie enjoys hiking, gardening, reading, and traveling with her husband. She is thrilled to return for another wonderful year in Magnolia class.

  • Billie Assad

    (She/her) Billie has worked with children of all ages in one capacity or another throughout most of her adult life. After spending several years as a stay-at-home mom with her two beautiful children, Nollie and Johnny, she realized that early childhood development was truly her calling. She joined the Montessori family in 2018 with a full heart; eager to assist in the development of each child, while continuing to learn and develop herself. Most recently, this development is in the form of Primary Training through the Prepared Montessorian Institute. For fun, she and her children enjoy exploring, camping, swimming, crafting, baking (taste-testing, mostly), reading and playing board games and baseball.

  • Miranda Bodman

    (She/her) Miranda has been in Nashville for over eight years, and she has worked in Montessori education for almost four years. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English and her primary training with the Association Montessori Internationale along with a Master’s Degree in Montessori Education through Loyola University. When outside of the classroom, Miranda enjoys spending time with her husband and friends. You can often find her reading a good thriller, going on hikes with her dog, or hosting a game night.

Elementary Lead Guide

  • Victoria Swany

    (She/her) Victoria is a Tennessee native who is excited to be settled in Nashville with her family after years of traveling, learning, and teaching. Her passion for education that emphasizes well-being spans back a decade, and her interest in Montessori, in particular, was sparked during her graduate studies of Education at the University of Virginia. She has been studying and working in a variety of Montessori environments in the U.S. and in Asia since 2015 and completed her Elementary Training from the Montessori Institute of San Diego. She appreciates nature, music, reading, animals, and learning about all subjects. 

Assistants

  • Traci Webb

    (She/her) Traci has been working with children, both as a teacher and nanny, for 15 years. Most of those years teaching have been in Nashville after moving here from Arkansas. She grew up around teachers in her family so leaning into education came naturally. She likes to spent her time in Music City going to live concerts and has become a hockey fan after going to her first Predators game. She was introduced to the Montessori teaching methods in recent years and continues to learn about and love the Montessori philosophy.

  • Rainbow Kopels

    (She/her) Rainbow is a proud mother of a teenage son and a 17-year-old, 100-pound Sulcata Tortoise named Doodle. After spending 25 years in Central California, Rainbow returned to her hometown of Nashville 8 years ago to be closer to her family. Her love of homeschooling and crafting led her to teach art to homeschool students of all ages, and she now teaches art therapy at a senior center for those with Dementia. Rainbow is passionate about gardening and is an Urban Farmer in West Nashville with year-round gardens and happy chickens. She is delighted to be back home to live, grow, and enjoy family.

  • Cece Davis

    (She/her) Cecilia is very happy to have the opportunity to work at Montessori East. She has always had a love of children and has been working in child care for over 12 years. Cecilia attended college at UT in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and currently lives in East Nashville. She is a mom of 4 children who she loves dearly. Their ages are 18, 17, 15, and 4 years old. When not busy taking care of children, Cecilia likes doing hair.

  • Melanie Russell

    (She/her) Melanie was born in Lima, Peru and moved to the states at age five. She has been living in Nashville since late summer 2022. She studied psychology in college. While having a passion for Montessori, Melanie is also a music photographer and is very active in the Nashville music scene.

  • V Mihalik

    (They/them) V received their Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Art History from the University of Texas at San Antonio. There they became a Carnegie Mellon Humanities Pathways Fellow focusing in contemporary issues in Latinx culture. In 2021, they moved from their hometown in San Antonio, Texas to Nashville and found a love for Montessori teaching. In their free time, they enjoy being in nature, road trips, cooking for loved ones, watching films, and spending time with their house dog, Osito.

  • Naomi Bartlett

    (She/her) Naomi was born in the United Kingdom, and moved with her family to Colorado and then Georgia before moving to Nashville to attend Belmont University. She graduated in 2017 and has a BA in English with an emphasis in writing. After completing a graduate-level seminar in Composition Theories her junior year, her interest in language pedagogy was piqued. She remains passionate about the role of language in building our world and is excited to bring this energy to her role at Montessori East.

  • Meghan Larson

    (She/her) Meghan was born and raised in Minnesota where she was the little helper in the family as she gained five siblings throughout the years. Since then, she has been a nanny and assisted in both classroom and daycare settings. She has been living in Franklin a little over a year now with her boyfriend and their Great Pyrenees pup.

  • Marjorie Webb

    (She/her) Marjorie is originally from Indianapolis, and lives downtown Nashville with her husband of ten years. She received her Bachelor degree in History from Indiana University, and has worked in several professional fields, but enjoys working with children the most. She comes to Montessori East after teaching Pre-K in public school, and appreciates the peaceful and creative environment Montessori education has to offer. In her free time, she loves traveling with her husband, exploring new cities, spending time with family/friends, reading, baking, and walking.

  • Adam Reeves

    (He/him) Adam has been living in Nashville for about nine years. He found a love for working with children as a summer camp counselor when he was younger. He worked in a recording studio, as a freelance carpenter and rug maker, and most recently worked as a preschool teacher before joining Montessori East. Adam loves camping and hiking. He also recently started making his own pickles. Adam will also always have a love for live music.
